Fourth grade seems to be the year of projects. In October, Elizabeth prepared a report on her favorite saint and then had to dress like the saint at school and make a presentation. Social Studies is the subject for December and Elizabeth has been furiously working on a diroma and paper about the Trail of Tears. I found a children's historical fiction book at the library for her, Soft Rain, which she eagerly read; we also watched a documentary on the Trail of Tears, which was a bit over her head (and put me to sleep), but she tried her best. She was not too excited about writing the paper, but the diroma has consumed her - even causing her to wake up extremely early in the morning to fiddle with it. She and Lee went to a local hobby store on Saturday and purchased some figures for it; on Sunday, she painted the box and drew different parts for the scene.
Drawing a covered wagon.
Trying to decide which figures to use and where to place them.
Painting the landscape.
Reading through her research for the paper.
We will admit to painting the part of the background where the sky meets the hills, but that's it; and only because we couldn't find a small enough paint brush for her to do the detail work without messing up.
The finished product.
Relieved (I think) that she's finally finished.
