NWC Lax started on March 20th and played in a jamboree and then had a scrimmage. Emily is playing defense again and looks great - but so far, she is not enjoying the experience. It's funny to say, but we think that she misses playing with Elizabeth. It was a bond that they shared - the good and the bad - together. We are hoping that things get better once the season starts.
In mid March, Emily played at the NEFC Showcase in Massachusetts. Her team lost its first game, despite completely dominating the opposing team and giving up only two shots on net. They came back and won the second and third games, winning the bracket and playing really well together. We are optimistic for a good season and love to see how much the entire team is learning and growing.
During spring break, Elizabeth traveled with the New Haven lacrosse team to Florida to train and play against two strong Division II colleges, Lynn and Rollins. Although Elizabeth has traveled without us, she's never flown without us - and she has certainly never spent a week in close quarters with 25 other people! This trip took her well outside of her comfort zone, but she persevered. Like her mother (!), Elizabeth is a control freak so not really having much of an itinerary or knowing what was happening all week was really difficult for her. One way that she got through that was to document her trip for us on a private snapchat story. We looked forward to following her adventures as they unfolded and it was a good way for her to have some control over the situation. New Haven lost to #15 Lynn University in a very close match on Wednesday and then suffered a thrilling overtime loss to #6 Rollins College. Overall, Elizabeth had a good trip, although she was happy to back in New Haven on Saturday afternoon.
