March Odds and Ends

March Soccer

The spring season has gotten off to a slow start for the Sporting 06 girls.  Last Sunday, they were absolutely stunned in a devastating loss to a team they tied last fall.  The girls were flat, slow and uninspiring, losing 8-0 (not a typo) to Syracuse.  They worked incredibly hard during the week, including a particularly brutal conditioning day with the 06 boys.  This Sunday, they looked significantly better, and stayed even with a much better team for close to an hour, before the other teams conditioning got the best of them.  Starting the season 0-2 wasn't exactly what they had in mind, but they are starting to look focused and sharp.  This coming weekend, they play a team ranked in top 5 on the east coast (and ranked number 1 nationally last year).  It will be another difficult test, but they can only get better from here.

Emily is nursing a sore groin, so is wearing a brace/wrap when she plays; ice and ibuprofen off the field.  It's a difficult injury to stay on top of, especially because it only hurts when she plays.

Invention Convention

Every other year, JPII participates in the Connecticut Invention Convention.  For some reason they skipped last year (yay!), but Emily had to participate this year.  She invented Beau's Toasty Coatsy, a dog coat with a battery charged heating pad to keep little dogs with short fur warm in the winter.  We thought that it was a pretty good invention, but you never know - some years are highly competitive.  JPII's invention convention was on Friday night and Emily was one of six students selected by three independent judges to compete at the state level at UConn in May.  She is so excited!!

So proud of our inventor!!
