The Driveway Rules

Between chalk, bubbles and Lee and Peter working on the front of the house, it's very difficult to get the girls into the backyard lately.....

Why just use chalk for drawing when you can't "paint" it with your bubble wand?

Spring Planting

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer and the official beginning of gardening for our family. Today, we planted the garden - and Elizabeth was a big help. First she told Lee where to plant things; then she helped me plant lettuce and beans and helped Lee plant tomatos; next, she planted sunflower seeds all by herself. Finally, she watered the garden, which was probably her favorite part.
Hmmm, what should we plant here?

Playing Possum

Last night, a possum crept across our neighbor's backyard around 7:30 p.m. Elliot - our trained hunting dog that never hunts - shot across our yard and our neighbor's yard in about two seconds. We thought he got it - but it was just "playing possum." About ten minutes later, when it was sure the coast was clear, the possum scurried away.

Hop Scotch

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again many times this summer - driveway chalk is an amazing thing. Elizabeth loves it when I draw hop scotch for her - she can't play well yet, but she loves it when I play. Here is a video of Elizabeth, doing her best Mommy imitation.

Friends Forever

People often ask us if the girls get along well and enjoy each other's company. These pictures pretty much say it all.

Rain is a Four Letter Word

Unable to work on the house over the last few weeks due to more pressing concerns, Lee and Peter were set to make a lot of progress this weekend. Most of Saturday was spent on tedious prep work - the kind of work that takes a lot of time but at the end of the day leaves me asking "what exactly did you guys do today?" (which is met with rolling eyes, believe me!). Late Saturday afternoon, things really started to get rolling, so they worked until dark, putting each of the four columns in place. On Sunday, they were scheduled to frame out the roof completely...but then the rain started and things came to a halt. All in all, Lee and Peter got a lot done - and maybe by the end of next weekend, we just might have a roof!

I am having a hard time finding an angle that shows just how much work they did this weekend.

Our Own Tiny Dancers

I haven't posted a video in a while and thought that this little performance was quite cute. Elizabeth is obviously starting to take dance quite seriously, which in and of itself is funny. We are planning to start Emily in dance in the fall, but with Elizabeth as a role model, she will be miles ahead of all of the other beginners in her class....clearly. I mean, look at that form!

Friendship and Love

Over the last couple of weeks, Lee and I have been spending a lot of time in the hospital visiting Grampy (Lee's dad). During that time, we have been fortunate to have wonderful friends and family taking care of Elizabeth and Emily - and, knowing what a shutterbug I am, they have taken lots of pictures so that we can see what a great time the girls are having. We are thankful for all of the kindness and appreciate your gift of time and love to our girls. Please know that your thoughtfulness helped make this difficult time easier for all of us - we are blessed. Click here to see pictures of the girls playing with Ethan (thanks Miss Janet and Mr. Kevin!); here to see the girls playing with their cousins (thanks Auntie Kathy, Uncle Peter, Auntie Karen and Uncle Joe); and here to see them with "Emily from NH" and Miss Karen (thanks!!).
