Winter Conditioning

Beginning at the end of the high school season and straight through the end of February, I worked with several of the Sporting soccer girls on their fitness. We really spent the winter concentrating on speed - feeding the cats - with warmups, drills and max effort sprints designed to increase their speed. And it worked - the girls that consistently showed up, week after week, are really flying on the field right now.

Indoor Track

Emily ran indoor track again this year for NWC. Overall, the season was a disappointment for her. As hard as she worked, she could not bring down her 55m dash time, not even one hundredth of a second. She was again less than a tenth of a second from qualifying. There was some good news, however - she was named captain and, at the last meet of the season, her 4x200m relay team put together their best race of the year and qualified for states. At the Class S Meet, they NWC's best time in five years. And at the end of season banquet, Emily received the Coach's Award.

Waiting - for almost an hour - to go through the metal detectors.

Elizabeth couldn't make it to the state meet because she had mandatory study hall, but she joined us for dinner out afterwards.
