Band & Chorus Concert

The girls' last band and chorus concert was a few weeks ago.  They did a wonderful job performing.  Elizabeth surprised us by performing a solo - her band teacher spoke about her scholarship to NWC and then Elizabeth performed one of her scholarship pieces.  She didn't think that it sounded good, so I'm not allowed to post it here.  The chorus sang some beautiful pieces, finishing with Home, by Phillip Phillips.  There wasn't an 8th grade parent in the place that wasn't crying.  I'm going to miss watching Elizabeth and her incredibly talented classmates perform in these concerts, but thankfully, we still have two more years with Emily.

These two have been taking this post-concert photo together for five years.

All State

The girls' All State Band concert was last weekend and it was a great show.  After three weekends of rehearsals, all of the bands came together for one performance. We are proud of all of their hard work and their commitment to their instruments.
Emily was in Gala Band.

Elizabeth was in Symphonic Band and Flute Choir.

Spring Band and Chorus Concert

The girls performed in the annual Spring Band & Chorus Concert last week.  Both played in the Advanced Band and were recognized for their selection to All State Band.  Elizabeth also sang with the chorus, including a few solo lines in Humble and Kind.

The saxophones are in the second and third row - you can barely see Emily when the band performs.

These are some awesome 7th graders.  Such a supportive bunch.

All State

Over the weekend, both girls participated in the All State Band Concert.  They have been meeting to practice every Friday night in March (and Elizabeth, every Saturday morning as well).  Emily was a member of the Gala Band and Elizabeth was a member of the Concert Band.  The concert was excellent and I was again amazed at how good these kids are.

Elizabeth was selected by audition for the Concert Band - two auditions, one for each instrument.  She has really worked hard this year!

You can just barely see Emily in this photo, between the two flute players (her hair is in a bun).

Elizabeth was second chair flute - she had the same audition score as the first chair, but the tie breaker went to the other girl because she is in 8th grade (which Elizabeth thought was very fair).

Band & Chorus Concert

The school Band and Chorus Concert was last week.  Elizabeth played both flute and piccolo for Advanced Band, while Emily played saxophone.  Elizabeth also sang in the chorus (next year, Emily will be in the chorus as well).  Advanced Band sounded so good and the chorus was great as well.

Elizabeth had a solo right at the beginning of That's Christmas to Me.  I missed the first couple of words because I was taken by surprise.

Spring Concert

The spring Band and Chorus Concert was held last week and both girls had their chance to shine.  We are so proud of all of their hard work.  This was Emily's last performance with the Cadet Band, she has officially graduated to Advanced Band.

It's blurry, but here is Elizabeth being recognized for playing in the Regional Honors Band and All State Concert Band - both of which she was selected to after auditioning.
Emily and Hanna played a duet of "Love Me Tender" during the Cadet Band performance.
