D.A.R.E.

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a national substance abuse education program conducted by police forces across the country.  5th and 6th graders go through the ten week program and learn skills to resist underage drinking, smoking, illegal drugs and bullying.  Our school has the program for 6th grade and it culminated in a graduation ceremony today, attended by several police officers, our principal and the mayor.  It was very nicely done.  As part of the program, the students prepare a poster (for an Art grade) and write an essay about what they learned in D.A.R.E.  Elizabeth took both of these tasks very seriously and got her heart set on having the best poster and the best essay, as judged by her D.A.R.E. officer.  When that girl sets her mind to something.....well, watch out.  She won both contests and we are so very proud of her.
