How Many Rings?

Lee had to cut off a portion of the bottom of our tree - well, the trunk is so big, he noticed he could easily count the rings - 10 of them, to be exact.  The responsibility for teaching the girls about nature easily and naturally falls to Lee - I can prevent myself from squealing when I see a bug, but he casually picks it up and lets it crawl all over him, much to the delight of the girls.  So he called them over to show them the rings, count the rings with them and explain what they meant.  We were surprised by how enraptured the girls were.  And the best part?  Every week, Elizabeth has to bring something in to share/show the class and the item has to go with the theme of the week.  One of the themes last week was the number ten, so she brought in this piece of tree trunk to show everyone.  It was such a hit that she got to show it to the other two kindergarten classes!

Alicia, you crack me up! Those are his FAVORITE jeans, which are irreplaceable! He put that "patch" in himself - no tailor for my husband!

I can do you one better. Hal had a favorite pair of pants which he refused to let me sew up. His solution- and I kid you not- DUCT TAPE. Sigh.
