May Lacrosse

NWC girls played ten lacrosse games in May, winning two of them (one more than last year!) and losing three by two goals or less.  The most exciting games, without a doubt, were those decided by one goal. Beating RHAM in double overtime was great but by far the best game the girls played was a heartbreaking one goal loss to Berlin.  They took Berlin by surprise, having lost to them by 12 goals last year. They watched film and entered the game with a plan and executed it perfectly.  At times, they even held the lead, but in the end, could not hold on. Elizabeth, Emily and their teammate Grace were defensive powerhouses in the game - it was incredible to watch and several parents came over to Lee and I after the game to tell how impressive the girls were. A few weeks later, after two more close losses, they were able to get the win against RHAM. When they entered overtime, Elizabeth and Emily defended together at the top of the 12, ultimately causing the turnover that led to the winning goal. It was such an exciting game and I was so happy for the girls that their hard work paid off. The final game of the season was a blow out loss, but it was incredibly emotional for me. It marked the last time that we will see our girls in the same uniform, on the same team, working and playing together. Watching them together was not only a blessing, it was also amazing - they were completely in sync with each other all the time, always knowing what the other was about to do, positioning to make things happen together.

First win of the season, 13-1 over Windsor.
Elizabeth has been taking draws against this player since 2nd grade.
Emily blocked this 8 meter shot THREE TIMES.  It was incredible, as she was going against one of the best players in the state.

Heading into overtime, before losing 13-12.

Defending the 8 meter shot together.
Elizabeth was face guarded in this game and the coach was screaming at her defender when Elizabeth was able to break free.

The officiating was so terrible in this game that the AD had to stop the game and have a conversation with the officials, threatening to call the game.  Elizabeth removed herself from the field for the last three minutes, rather than risk another yellow card.

Big OT win over RHAM, with 6 seconds left in the game.

Last draw of her high school career...
...and she won it!

All smiles after her final game.  The only tears that day were mine.
