Bernie Ward Labor Day Shootout

This weekend, the Sporting 06 girls played their first soccer games of the season and went 4-0 at the Bernie Ward Labor Day Shootout, taking home the championship for the third time in four years.  There were three different brackets and the team was edged out of the top bracket because their overall state ranking just wasn't high enough. As a result, they completed dominated the middle bracket. After starting the weekend with a close 1-0 win, they ran the table, winning 8-0, 6-1 and 5-0; and each of those scores could have been much higher, but the coach sat the starters for 1/2 of every game.  It was a great confidence building weekend for the girls and some insight into the magic the coach has worked with this team over the last year.  Although they struggled mightily last spring playing against the top teams in the Northeast, their speed, quickness, skills and IQ really improved - which was obvious over the weekend when they were able to run up the score on teams that they could barely beat last year at this time.  We are looking forward to seeing how they progress this fall.

I've never seen a group of girls look so relaxed before a championship game.

First goal was scored less than 3 minutes into the game.
