Emily is playing basketball again this winter and is really loving it. There are no 8th graders on the team this year, so she is the most experienced player - the team has one 7th grader and nine 6th graders. We thought she would be overwhelmed by the responsibility, but she has really risen to the occasion. The coaches, including me, could not be more pleased with her effort and improvement. She plays point guard and center, although from time to time she also plays forward and guard. For the last month, she's played every minute of every game (she has probably sat for a total of 2 minutes all season) and she's had two double doubles - for one, she had ten rebounds and 15 steals (8 points too, only 1 basket away from a triple double!) and for the other, she had 10 points and 12 steals. She has really exploded as a player and scores in double digits almost every game - which is still surprising to us. Lately, she's had a couple of steals that have resulted in her taking the ball coast to coast and scoring a nice lay up, which is just so awesome to see. She loves playing and this weekend, even chose to play a basketball game instead of a soccer game (which stunned us). We love to watch her play.
Winning the jump ball, second game in a row.
She puts a lot of time into practicing foul shots, but she has yet to make one this year.
Another steal.
