Falls Sports Awards

Last week, we attended our first high school awards night.  I have to say, Northwest Catholic knows how to make parents and students feel good about their accomplishments.  The president of the school gave a compelling speech about how the student athletes live their best selves on the athletic field, fully dedicating their mind, body and spirit (which is the mantra of NWC).  He then invited a senior from each sport to give a short talk about what participating in sports at NWC meant to them.  Every student athlete told a different story with a different theme - some focused on team accomplishments, some focused on what sports taught them about life, some thanked their parents for making so many sacrifices.  It was really impressive and really great.  After the speeches, the sports broke into individual groups and gave out team awards.  Elizabeth received her first varsity letter and was recognized, along with 99 other NWC varsity athletes, as All Conference Academic.*

With Julia, her partner in crime.

* All Conference Academic is not as impressive as it sounds.  Varsity athletes must carry a 3.2 GPA or higher to be eligible.  Every varsity letter winner on the cross country team (7 boys, 7 girls) was All Conference Academic, which seemed to take the coach by surprise.
