Emily had a great tournament at the Cape. Could she have played a little bit better? Of course. But she did really well for the conditions - it was brutally hot and the sun was just beating down on them during all four games. The first two games were very physical, which is always a bit harder on someone small like Emily. In the second game, she was blasted twice (both times, a penalty was called) and actually got up very slowly one time, holding her shoulder - lump in my throat, as Emily never gets up slowly. After a quick check of her shoulder mobility, she went back in the game and proceeded to score two goals - one of which might be the prettiest goal I've seen at this age level, as her back was to the goal as she started her shot. She's no Messi, and I certainly don't expect to ever seen anything like it again, but it was a great one. The team ended up going 1-2-1 and Emily scored four goals over four games. They played like a team for the first time in a long time, but it was bittersweet for Emily. She is moving to a new club next year, so while her teammates go through tryouts this week, she already knows that she has a new group of teammates. We will miss her friends (and their parents) on the team, but we are hoping for a better experience for Emily.
This sequence of photos gives you an idea of how physical the play was. Two hand push - no call.
Two hand push - again, no call.

2 hand push…same girl each time.
Someday #14 will lose the game for her teammates with that 2 hand push!
Great job Emily!!
