Although it seems virtually impossible, our baby girl turns five today. Emily continues to delight us and has the ability to make just about everyone fall in love with her. In last year's birthday post, I described Emily as a "paradox" - well, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Emily is every bit the challenge she was the day that she was born. She is not a good listener; she is stubborn; she can throw one heck of a temper tantrum and, even after five years of losing every fight to me, she continues to think that she has the chance to take charge of our home; she is devious and coniving; she is one heck of a tattletaler; and she lies as if her live depends on it. On the other hand, she is incredibly loving - she gives great hugs and when she starts trying out her "Jasmine kiss" on boys, there is little doubt that they will fall at her feet. She is fiercely loyal to her sister (when she isn't tattling on her); she is the best sleeper around and amazes our friends (especially our lifting friends) with her ability to grab a nap anytime, anyplace; she is both scattered and focused, easily distracted yet also able to entertain herself for hours on end. Emily has become - if possible - more chatty than her sister and it is becoming more and more fun to engage her in long conversations. She continues to be an adventurous eater and will try anything at least once.
We have really enjoyed watching her transform over the last year and we are so excited to see what the next year will bring. There are so many firsts ahead of her these next twelve months - and we are certain that she will handle it all with confidence and her bright, charming smile.
Happy Birthday Emily! We love you more and more every day!
