ECAC Championship

The ECAC mens championship hockey game was played in Lake Placid last weekend and because Emily and I were headed to Clarkson that night, we decided to go. Unfortunately, Clarkson lost, ending a really great season, but it was a great game. College hockey is so much fun to watch live and the Herb Brooks Arena is a spectacular barn; not a bad seat in the house. Lake Placid is a great little town and we are already making plans to go back there to spend some time.

Herb Brooks Arena - not a bad seat in the house. Emily and I both were a little awestruck by the fact that we were sitting in the barn where that great Olympic hockey game was played in 1980.

O Canada

Elizabeth and Emily did not have the same spring break week, so we could not do something together as a family. Their weeks off were, however, back to back, so on the Friday, Elizabeth drove to Potsdam to pick up Emily and then together, they drove to Canada and spent a long weekend with Gabe at Bishops. They had a great time hanging out and celebrating St. Patrick's Day and then drove home on Monday afternoon.

Elizabeth's first time making the drive to Potsdam. She timed her trip perfectly, arriving right as Emily finished her last midterm.
Off to Canada

Gabe's family has a cabin that is off the grid and they spent some time there on Saturday.

Maple syrup on the snow!

The drinking age in Canada is 18 and they partied (legally) every night.

Winter Odds and Ends

January and February odds and ends:

It was a cold January in Potsdam!

Roommates!!
Clarkson called a snow day the next day, for only the second time in school history.
6am lift hits different when you have to walk to the gym in negative temps and snow drifts.
Special treatment at Starbucks. I know the barista.

After dropping her off in January, we didn't see Emily for ten weeks - thank goodness for SnapChat, which helps us all stay in touch.

CDHR

Elizabeth has been volunteering at CDHR for almost two years and loves it as much as the day she started. Not surprisingly, she is darn good at working with horses, very reliable, and mature beyond her years when presented with unpredictable scenarios at the farm. Not only is she part of CDHR's emergency response team, but she was recently asked to become a shift leader, and after a few weeks of training, led her first shift this week.

When Gabe was home on break, he worked a few farm shifts with Elizabeth.
