The Holocaust Museum

After visiting several memorials, we stopped at the Holocaust Museum.  Like every place in D.C. that week, there was a huge line, but lucky for us, that line was to get tickets to the main exhibit.  I had already done enough research to know that there was no way we were taking the girls into the main exhibit, so we went to the shorter line and visited some of the smaller displays and the children's exhibit, which was very moving.  The girls read every word of every part of the children's exhibit, Daniel's Story, which was extremely well done.  They were filled with questions and very sad when we left.  I'm so glad that we took them, for so many reasons - one of which is that they have been studying John Paul II over the last several weeks because he just became a saint.  John Paul II's story is very much tied in with the holocaust and they had a very good foundation to build on when they started their studies.  Elizabeth has read two YA books about the holocaust since we returned from our trip.

Each flag represents a regiment of the United States military that liberated the concentration camps.
