Jefferson & Washington

The Washington Monument was the first thing we saw as we drove through Washington, D.C. on the first night of our vacation.  The girls were obsessed with it, always taking photos of it whenever they saw it - either from the car or walking.  It doesn't re-open until mid-May so we were able to go inside, but it is still pretty spectacular to look at.

View of the monument from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

Although I've visited Washington, D.C. before, I don't remember ever going to the Jefferson Memorial.  It is a bit off of the beaten path, so maybe that's why.  Early one morning, we made the walk over to it and it was quite the sight to see.

While Elizabeth and Emily were writing their thoughts about Jefferson, a Japanese tourist started taking their picture.  And then another Japanese tourist also started taking their picture.  I moved to block them from view, and the tourists moved on.  Or so I thought.  When I started walking around again inside the Memorial, they headed back over to take more shots, albeit a bit more discretely.  This time, Lee blocked the girls from their view, but it wasn't until he started moving at them a bit more aggressively that they finally backed off.

Two days sooner, and this shot would have been filled with cherry blossoms.  A hard rain on Tuesday evening knocked them all down.
