Lincoln & Roosevelt

The Lincoln Memorial was almost two miles from our hotel, but we made it there our first evening in Washington, D.C.  It was absolutely packed with tourists; I would love to have gone back very early in the morning and view it a bit more peacefully, but it was an experience nevertheless.

I had to memorize the Gettysburg address during my junior year of high school (I think) and surprisingly, I've never forgotten it.

The Roosevelt Memorial is relatively knew and surprisingly large.  It extends over 7 1/2 acres and traces 12 years of U.S. history through a sequence of four outdoor rooms, one for each of Roosevelt's terms in office.
