Back in March, all of the third graders in the city* were asked to interview and/or write a report about one of their ancestors. Elizabeth decided to interview my father, but my father convinced her that while she could interview him, his own father was a far more interesting subject to learn about. Elizabeth agreed, and while she interviewed my father, I wrote down his answers. She also helped him go through our family bible, as well as some photo albums. After the interview, she set about putting her project together. She decided that she wanted it to be typed, so I agreed to do the typing while she dictated the report to me (it was difficult, at times, not to correct her grammar or sentence structure, but I restrained myself). She then put it together, scrap-book style. It came out really great and we both learned a lot about my grandfather!
Interviewing my dad. My dad is going through our family bible, looking for the answers to some of her questions.
This is a photo of a stone that my grandfather picked up off of the ground in the southwestern part of the United States, while he was on his way (with the US Army) to fight Pancho Villa.
My grandfather, in uniform.
The finished product.
*Beyond the human interest component, there is a reason for this particular post. Stay tuned....
