4th of July

As we do every year, we spent the afternoon of the 4th of July on the Connecticut River with my friend Melissa's extended family.  The air was oppressive (although definitely better near the water) and the water was high and fast, so the festivities were a bit more subdued than usual this year (no boat rides or parties on the sandbar), but it was still a good time.  We are so grateful that Melissa and Mark's family includes us in this wonderful annual tradition.

You can't tell from this photo, but due to heavy rain in Vermont and Canada, the river was muddy and high.
