I have always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon and while that is not likely to happen any time soon, we did recently get the chance to go to a hot air balloon festival. The Plainville Fire Company Hot Air Balloon Festival was held in late August and while I couldn't convince anyone in the family to get up early for the launches at dawn, I did get them to go for the evening launch. It was amazing! One of the really great things was that we got to see so many balloons, up close and personal. It was so neat to watch the owners get the balloons ready to launch, including filling them with air and firing up the engines. I'd love to see a "real" balloon festival out west someday but for New England this was pretty good!
In the beginning, we thought that these would be the only balloons that launched. Boy, were we in for a surprise.
We got an up close and personal view of this launch, from beginning to end.
Turning on the fan.
The balloon is just starting to inflate behind the girls.
A view from the basket area, into the balloon.
Firing it up!
In total, about twenty balloons launched but I could never seem to get more than three or four of them in one photo.
Every time we turned around, another balloon was inflating.
