The Flute

Fourth grade is the year of the musical instrument.  After being introduced to the recorder in third grade, fourth graders may select an instrument and join the band.  We were very surprised when Elizabeth decided to play the flute.  It seems like a very complicated instrument to me, frankly.  After about a week of simply blowing air into it, however, Elizabeth's playing seems to have really taken off.  She generally practices for ten minutes every night and is learning that practice really does make perfect!

Same song, two weeks later.

Elizabeth, Your uncle Andy would be proud of you…one of his favorite musicians was Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull fame and he played the flute like no one's business…have your mom or dad go online and pull off the song "In the Grip of Stronger Stuff"…great example of how good this musician was…I actually have it in my iPod library…always think of Andy when I here Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson. Elizabeth, you are following in Alison's foot steps. She played the flute and was in her jr. High and high school bands. Beautiful instrument. Keep it up! <3 Melissa
